Dedicated Nashville Family Law Attorney Understands Tennessee's Department of Children’s Services

Activities of Tennessee' Department of Children's Services

The Department of Children’s Services primarily operates in three areas for the Tennessee community: child safety, adoption or foster care and juvenile justice. As a Nashville juvenile law attorney, I have worked with the Department of Children’s Services since 1995. I have the experience and personal connections at the agency to be your advocate where the Department is involved.

Child safety and the Department of Children’s Services

Tennessee law requires anyone who suspects that a child has been abused or neglected to report his or her concerns to DCS.  DCS then investigates these "referrals."  If DCS thinks you have abused or neglected your child, you may be in for one of the most stressful experiences of your life that can have lasting consequences for you and your children.  You need an attorney who knows the law and DCS policies and procedures to protect your rights and those of your children

According to the agency website, the Department of Children's Services received more than 169,000 calls to its child abuse hotline and conducted more than 60,000 investigations into reported child abuse and neglect during 2012. Child abuse and neglect affects families in all socioeconomic circles, and the trauma can stay with a child for his or her entire life.

Adoption and foster care in Nashville, Tennessee

The Department of Children’s Services also houses babies, children, teenagers and sibling groups who are looking for a new home. The Department offers training before an adoptive or foster placement and follow-up to make the transition as smooth as possible.

The Department of Children’s Services and the juvenile justice system

When the juvenile courts commit a youth offender to the Department of Children’s Services, the Department offers probation, supervision and rehabilitation services. There are separate programs for young men and young women in Tennessee who need a little extra guidance in their teenage years. The youth development centers are accredited by the American Correctional Association.

Helping Tennessee families grow and prosper

As a juvenile and family law attorney, I understand how difficult and stressful it can be when you face the DCS. I advocate tirelessly for parents who face the possible loss of their children — but I also protect children whose homes are unfit or unsafe. For almost two decades, I’ve served clients by adapting to their unique circumstances, ensuring that they received the best possible defense for their cases.
